American Airlines And Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children Team Up To Send Special Group Of Teens Skiing
FORT WORTH , Texas – American Airlines is proud to once again sponsor air transportation for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) 26 th Annual Amputee Ski Trip. American Airlines is providing air travel for 15 teenage patients, as well as their chaperones and medical staff.
In addition, American employees will host a send-off party for the group at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Terminal D Admirals Club lounge before the flight. As a special salute from American, fire trucks will give the group's aircraft a “shower of affection” before takeoff – weather permitting.
“American Airlines and our employees are excited to continue our support of this very worthy cause and the patients of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children,” said Bella Goren, American's Senior Vice President of Customer Relationship Marketing and Reservations. “The hospital staff is providing these kids with an unforgettable experience and we are thrilled to be a part of this important event.”
The annual ski trip goes to the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colo. TSRHC has found that snow skiing is a desirable activity for amputees. With special equipment, a week of skiing allows them to become skilled, and in some cases, competitive in the sport.
“The teenagers look forward to this trip every year. It's an invaluable opportunity for them to learn a new skill and gain confidence with the prosthetics,” said Don Cummings, TSRHC Director of Prosthetics. “Most importantly, this trip gives the teens the chance to form life-long friendships and allows them a very unique form of healing.”
