American Airlines Announces Codeshare And Frequent Flyer Agreements With Malev Hungarian Airlines

January 9, 2007

FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines, a founding member of the global oneworld® Alliance, today announced it has applied to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for authorization to begin codeshare cooperation with Malév Hungarian Airlines. The application proposes that codesharing operations begin on March 25, 2007.

American and Malév, one of the leading carriers in Central and Eastern Europe, have also signed a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement. Together, these agreements will offer customers more opportunities to earn frequent flyer miles in the AAdvantage program or points in Malev's Duna Club program beginning Jan. 9, 2007. And, in the coming months, American and Malév will also implement a reciprocal agreement allowing their frequent flyers to redeem their miles or points on each airline.

“Malév is a quality airline that will greatly expand travel options to Central and Eastern Europe for our customers,” said Henry Joyner, American's Senior Vice President - Planning. “Since Malév will soon become a member of the oneworld® Alliance, this relationship makes a great deal of strategic sense as well.”

Under the codeshare agreement, American would place its AA designator code on Malév's daily flights between Budapest and New York JFK, as well as on flights to Budapest to and from London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris de Gaulle, Brussels, Rome and Zurich. Also included are flights beyond Budapest to destinations in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Malév would place its MA designator code on American's trans-Atlantic flights between Malév's European gateways and the United States, as well as on AA flights between New York and Toronto and other points in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and South America.

Additionally, American Airlines AAdvantage® members will be able to earn AAdvantage miles on all Malév flights worldwide on eligible published fare tickets. Malév's network offers service to nearly 60 destinations in 36 countries, including Budapest as well as to cities throughout Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

In addition, Malév's Duna Club frequent flyer members can earn points on eligible published fare tickets on American's large network throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia. In total, Malév's Duna Club members will benefit from more than 250 American Airlines destinations in more than 40 countries. .

“We are excited to welcome Malév to the AAdvantage program, giving AAdvantage members even more opportunities to earn miles to exciting destinations in the Malév network,” said Kurt Stache, President - AAdvantage Marketing Programs.

Malév operates a modern fleet of primarily Boeing aircraft, including Boeing 767-200s and New-Generation Boeing 737s. Malév also operates CRJ-200 and Fokker 70 jets.
